Activate Dorchester

There is a specific kind of joy found in moving together. At Activate in Dorchester’s South Bay, that movement is transformed into a high-tech dance of strategy and sweat. It is Boston’s first foray into 'active gaming,' a concept that pulls you out of the sofa and into the screen.

Inside the 11 immersive rooms, the floor might glow with the viral Mega Grid—a pressure-sensitive light show that demands quick feet—or you might find yourself dodging a web of lasers like a character in a heist film. With over 80 challenges to choose from, the experience is less about the score and more about the shared rhythm of the moment. Each team of two to five players wears an RFID bracelet, a quiet companion that tracks your progress through ten levels of difficulty, allowing you to pick up exactly where you left off on your next visit.

It matters because in a world of solitary screens, Activate offers a rare, high-energy bridge between digital play and physical connection. It is a place to laugh, to stumble, and to eventually find your footing alongside friends.

You’ll find them at 20 District Ave, open daily from 10:00 AM. Wear your favorite sneakers and prepare to move; the games are short—just one to three minutes—but the memory of a successful heist lasts much longer. Book your hour-long session online to ensure your spot in the grid.
